What if a nursery brand was designed with the same care as a grown-up lifestyle brand?

Most nursery branding falls into one of two traps: clip-art primary colours that look the same as every competitor, or corporate childcare aesthetics that feel cold to the parents actually choosing a setting.

Alder Grove was built to answer a different question. The answer was a woodland. A calm, natural palette of forest greens, moss and soft cream replaces the usual primary-colour noise. Each age group becomes a room named after a woodland animal, giving children something to belong to and parents an easy mental map of the setting.

Brand colour

A woodland palette

Drawn from forest floor and canopy: greens and creams that feel natural, safe and calm rather than loud. The palette signals warmth and safety to parents, while staying playful enough for the children themselves.

Brand identity

A hand-drawn display face for warmth and character

The wordmark uses a custom display typeface chosen for its organic, hand-drawn quality. It sits large and confident: warm and approachable without ever looking like a generic childcare brand. Tested across four colourways for maximum flexibility.

The woodland family

Four hand-built characters, each with a consistent construction: soft shapes, a cream face, the same eyes and nose language so they read as one family. Each animal anchors an age-group room and gives children something to recognise before they can read.

Room badge system

One woodland, many rooms

Each room gets its own badge: mascot, room name, and colour treatment. The system works across signage, uniforms, print, and digital. One set of rules, infinite applications.

A system that scales

Alder Grove shows how a single strong idea, the woodland, can anchor a complete brand across every surface from the reception wall to the staff polo to the parent-facing Instagram feed.

About this project Alder Grove is a self-initiated concept project developed to explore early-years brand identity and character system design. It demonstrates how Studio Kaiso approaches childcare and community brands: strategy first, character throughout.
